Acupuncture During IVF: Questions to Ask Before Booking

Questions to discuss before exploring acupuncture as adjunct support during IVF or fertility treatment.

By Dr. Kailey Chapman (Acupuncture)

Some people explore acupuncture while preparing for IVF or moving through fertility treatment. At Free the Qi, this is discussed as adjunct care only. Your fertility specialist's advice, medication timing and medical plan remain central.

This article is general information, not fertility or medical advice.

Questions worth asking first

Before booking acupuncture during IVF or fertility treatment, it can help to ask:

  • Where am I in my current fertility plan?
  • Has my fertility specialist given timing or medication guidance?
  • Are there symptoms that need medical review first?
  • Am I considering herbs or supplements, and have I checked interactions?
  • What do I want support with: stress, sleep, cycle context, comfort or appointment planning?

Bring relevant cycle dates, medication details and clinic instructions to your appointment.

What may be discussed

A consultation may include your reproductive health history, cycle details, stress load, sleep, digestion, previous treatment experiences and advice from your fertility team. Any acupuncture, moxa, herbs or supplements are discussed before use and adapted to what is suitable.

The aim is not to promise an IVF result. It is to understand context, coordinate sensibly with your existing care and keep expectations realistic.

When medical guidance comes first

Please contact your GP, fertility specialist or relevant medical team first for new pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, suspected pregnancy complications, medication concerns or symptoms that feel urgent or unusual. Once you have been assessed, acupuncture can be discussed as supportive care where suitable.
